Qualico is known for creating quality communities that meet market demands and exceed homebuyers’ expectations. This project is an opportunity to demonstrate leadership in developing sustainable, innovative communities that answer growing demand for low-carbon options.
It is also a chance to support the Alberta government’s Hydrogen Roadmap and get ahead of changing federal building codes that set high standards around embodied carbon. The transition to a lower-carbon future will take collaboration between government and industry, and Qualico is stepping up to the plate as a leader in the development industry. -
Alberta has an existing track record of producing and using hydrogen for industrial processes. However, there is an untapped opportunity for Alberta to lead in hydrogen-related technology as well as production.
This project could help jump start a made-in-Alberta hydrogen appliance industry, creating many desirable jobs in technical design and manufacturing. It will also help establish policies that enable 100% hydrogen communities, presenting a more affordable and attainable low-carbon alternative than full electrification for home heating needs. -
This project depends on updates to the Government of Alberta’s Gas & Utility Act (GUA), Gas Distribution Act, and Safety Codes Act/Gas Code Regulation.
Making these updates would unlock significant opportunity for Alberta, both in terms of meeting environmental goals and creating economic value. It supports the Government of Alberta’s Hydrogen Roadmap, efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and commitment to creating well-paying jobs for Albertans.
